About

In chapter XI in ‘The Prince’: ‘Of ecclesiastical principalities’ Machiavelli states that to achieve or maintain ecclesiastical principalities requires neither ability nor good fortune; for they are sustained by the ancient ordinances of religion, which are so powerful and of such quality that they maintain their princes in their position, no matter what their conduct or mode of life may be.

To what extent do Machiavelli’s thoughts apply to the roles and responsibilities of modern leaders from different countries, cultures and trades? Do we still uphold and preserve untouchable institutions or positions due to their roots in ancient traditions? How important is it for a modern leader to constantly question the basis for an organisation or individual position?
