About

In chapter XXIV in ‘The Prince’: ‘The reason why the princes of Italy have lost their states’ Machiavelli states that the actions of a new prince are much more closely observed and scrutinized than those of an hereditary one. And thus he will have the double glory of having established a new principality whereas it will be a double shame to a hereditary prince, if through lack of prudence and ability he loses his state.

To what extent do Machiavelli’s thoughts apply to the roles and responsibilities of modern leaders from different countries, cultures and trades? Do we still judge hereditary leaders harder in regards to disgrace and glory?
